Replacing your roof is a big deal. So, wouldn’t you like to know what goes into a full roof replacement? If so, you have come to the right place! Knowing what to expect—from signing the quote to the final inspection—can make the experience less stressful and far more predictable.

Step One: Coordination

Once you have signed the quote, our team gets to work. One of our coordinators will reach out and begin organizing the details of your project. They will handle many logistics, such as scheduling the best time for your roof replacement, estimating the project’s duration, and determining optimal dumpster placement and accessibility.

Our team typically schedules projects two to four weeks after the quote is signed.

Once you’ve spoken with our coordination team, our logistics team steps in to assess the site. They will determine the best location for the dumpster to ensure minimal disruption to your daily routine while also protecting your property.

Step Two: Out with the Old, In with the New

The day of the project has arrived—exciting! Before we begin, the crew (usually consisting of 4-6 people) will take detailed photos of your property, documenting areas such as windows, siding, and landscaping. This ensures everything remains in the same condition once the job is complete.

We take extra precautions to protect your property. Long tarps are extended from the roof down to the ground, channeling debris directly into the dumpster. This helps safeguard shrubs, siding, decking, and other features that can’t be moved.

The Tear-Off

With the protective measures in place, it’s time to begin the actual project! The first step is removing the existing roofing materials. This tends to be the loudest and messiest part of the job. Our crews use roofing shovels to strip the roof down to the decking. Once all materials are removed, we inspect the roof deck for any issues, such as rotting plywood or OSB, and will communicate any necessary replacements with you.

Throughout the process, our crew ensures all debris is quickly picked up and disposed of, keeping your home and property safe.

Underlayment and Drip Edge Installation

After the old roof is removed and the decking is inspected, we install two essential components: the drip edge and the underlayment. The drip edge helps protect against wind-driven rain, while the underlayment serves as the first layer of defense against the elements. The type of underlayment used depends on local building codes and the specific needs of your project.

Step Three: Layered Protection

With the drip edge and underlayment in place, it’s time for the roofing materials to arrive. These materials typically arrive right when the crew needs them. Shingles are delivered via a boom truck, which lifts them onto the roof for strategic placement.

Shingles are usually installed starting at the eaves and rakes and working up toward the ridge. Each shingle is fastened with four nails and layered to ensure a watertight seal.

During this phase, our crew also installs flashing around chimneys, vents, and pipes. Proper flashing is crucial in preventing water infiltration. Roofs with more features and penetrations require extra attention, which may extend the installation time.

Step Four: Finishing Touches

Once all the shingles are in place, we install the final elements, such as the ridge vent and matching capping shingles. These features ensure proper attic ventilation, reducing moisture buildup and preventing mold growth.

Although the roof installation is complete, our work isn’t done yet. We conduct a thorough cleanup, including multiple sweeps of your property using large magnets on rollers to collect nails and other metal debris.

Step Five: Final Inspection

Last but not least, your project manager will return to your home to conduct a final inspection, ensuring everything meets Joyland’s high-quality standards.
